A SMALL BOAT TURNED
A small boat turned
Past the jetty
Into the basin,
Its long slow arc
Making ripples,
One upon the other
In all directions,
Which struck the jetty itself
The docks
The other boats
And finally
The distant shore across the narrows.
So it is with Christ.
The long arc of steady grace
Makes ripples one upon the other,
Each one passing o’er us
To go on and bless another,
While yet another comes our way,
One day to carry us safely
To a far and distant shore.
